We've seen it being rolled out across the country and now it's coming to Central Victoria.

The government-owned NBN network is the latest telecommunication infrastructure to deliver fast, reliable internet and clear fixed lines to many customers.

But before we're surfing the internet and enjoying better entertainment experiences there are several things you need to know.

Many local internet customers will have to either move or face possible disconnection of their old technology services which is predominantly in the major towns like Bendigo, Castlemaine and Kyneton.

For a number of areas in Bendigo like Spring Gully, Kennington, Strathdale and Quarry Hill traditional copper-based phone, data and internet services have already started to be switched off from August through September and October this year.

Telstra Area General Manager Steve Tinks says those who wish to keep a fixed telephone and/or internet service will have to take action now.

"Our message is to help avoid any potential disconnection or service disruption residents and businesses need to place an order for services on the NBN immediately."

- Steve Tinker, Telstra Area General Manager.

Who will need to make the move?

For locals that live outside the main towns that are on fixed wireless NBN or satellite in these areas, that is the type of technology they can get NBN on, therefore you do not have to move.

Once the NBN network is available in your area, Telstra can help you get set up with the broadband, home phone and internet services you want.

"It would be great if community members could check in on loved ones and elderly neighbours to make sure they are fully prepared for the impending disconnection of copper services."

For those still unsure what their NBN situation is, best bet is to call into one of your local Telstra Stores in Bendigo and they will be able to search what technology is available to you.
