A man who allegedly tried to rob a Belmont takeaway shop has handed himself into police.
It's claimed the 21 year old was armed with a machete when he demanded money from staff, who were cleaning up at the Pacific Highway restaurant just after 10pm Wednesday night.
They refused to hand over cash and he fled empty handed.
Police set up a perimeter in the surrounding streets in a bid to catch him.
It's understood he saw the patrolling police cars and decided to hand himself in.
Police say he walked into Belmont Police Station, where he was arrested and charged.
