Three women have been busted trying to smuggle drugs into jails across the state, including at Cessnock, by stuffing the contraband into their bras.

A male visitor was also caught with four balloons of tobacco stuffed inside his socks.

All four have been charged.

Raids were carried out over the weekend at Cessnock, Silverwater and Goulburn prisons, targeting inmates, cells, common areas and visitors.

Officers seized four mobile phones and three SIM cards, 5g of methamphetamine, seven buprenorphine strips, 35g of tobacco and 36 Xanax tablets.

“I’m absolutely appalled that this weekend’s searches resulted in four visitors facing charges of attempting to smuggle contraband into a correctional centre – essentially placing the lives of our staff at risk,” Corrections Minister David Elliott said.

“I want to remind visitors to centres that we will not tolerate this illegal activity and you will be caught and penalised.
