Police have charged a Hunter man with child exploitation offences following an investigation by the state's sex crimes squad.
It's alleged detectives posing as a 14-year-old girl began speaking with a man online from the Hunter in July.
Police claim he engaged in sexually explicit conversations before arranging to meet in person in Parramatta today.
Officers from Strike Force Trawler arrested a 31-year-old just after 10am this morning.
It's also alleged police seized a mobile phone and large knife found in his backpack.
He was charged with using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 and was refused bail ahead of facing court in Sydney this afternoon.
