Total Fire Ban For The Hunter

It comes into effect at midnight.

A total fire ban has been issued for the Hunter - and will come into effect from midnight.

Hot, windy conditions are set to create dangerous fire conditions with the firefighters on high alert.

Temperatures are expected to hit 35 degrees in Bulahdelah, and 34 degrees in Cessnock with west to northwesterly winds forecast.

Meantime the Rural Fire Service is working to contain two blazes which burn out of control ahead of tomorrow's dangerous conditions.

The Heatons Lookout blaze near Freemans Waterhole has burnt through nearly 1,000 hectares after starting from an unattended camp fire more than a week ago.

While two water-bombing helicopters and more than a dozen fire trucks are working to contain a 100 hectare fire burning in Richmond Vale just west of the Rail Museum, with crews to continue to strengthen containment lines throughout the night.

Both fires are not currently threatening homes or properties.
