Supercars Safety Upgrades Continue In East End

There could be some minor delays.

Supercars Safety Upgrades Continue In East End

Newcastle council has begun installing a number of temporary pedestrian crossings across the city's CBD following the Supercars event.

Work has begun today on new raised crossings on Nobbys Road near Fort Scratchley and on Wharf Road near the Customs House plaza, with traffic control in effect while installation takes place.

Additional crossings will go in tomorrow on Watt Street between Hunter and Scott Streets tomorrow with traffic control in place.

While Watt Street will be closed between Hunter and King Streets for eight hours on Saturday so similar work can go ahead.

A temporary roundabout was installed along Wharf Road earlier this week, and crossings have already gone in along Scott Street and Parnell Place.

Council would have installed the crossings earlier but there were delays in receiving everything needed to get the work done.
