REVEALED: Newcastle Supercars Concert Line Up

Supercars organisers have locked in the entertainment for next month's Newcastle 500.

80's rock band Simple Minds will headline the November 24 concert, with Aussie rockers Birds of Tokyo the support act.

“To have such an iconic international act along with such a huge Australian band in Birds of Tokyo is the perfect combination,” Supercars CEO Sean Seamer said.

“These bands are playing to sold out shows, so to have them in Newcastle is going to make for a very special weekend.”

The concert has been moved from the Foreshore to Newcastle's No. 1 Sportsground, due to the support categories moving from the old rail corridor to where last year's concert was held at Camp Shortland.

There'll also only be one concert on Saturday night instead of two.

Those with a race day ticket will get free access.

Simple Minds is one of the biggest bands to come out of the UK with five number ones and more than 70 million albums sold. They continue to tour with their biggest and latest hits including Don't You (Forget About Me) and Alive and Kicking.

Birds of Tokyo have risen from their Perth indie roots to become Australia’s most popular contemporary rock groups. The five-piece group last played the Hunter region as special guests of Midnight Oil at Hope Estate twelve months ago.

"Newcastle has always been a great place for rock bands like us to play”, says the group’s frontman Ian Kenny.

“There’s something in the water up there which makes the punters just that bit wilder so we’re looking forward to seeing how that all plays out at a big event like this.”
