The state government have released their vision for the Hunter Sports and Entertainment Precinct in Broadmeadow.
It's released concept plans for the 63 hectare site bordering Turton Road, Griffiths Road, Lambton Road and Brown and Chatham Roads.
Some of the features include multi-purpose fields, a sports centre and hotel, upgraded tennis, hockey and football facilities and more parking and parkland areas.
The site encompasses McDonald Jones Stadium, the Entertainment Centre and showgrounds, hockey fields and harness racing track.
Parliamentary Secretary Scot MacDonald says it's the project will turn the region into one of the country's biggest sporting hubs.
"We've got to catch up in the Hunter."
"It was probably OK 20 years ago, but to compete with the likes of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne we've got to lift our standards in terms of everything - the stadiums, the range of sports and facilities and even the basic things like the quality of the change rooms."
