A man wanted by Port Stephens Police over two stolen cars and an outstanding warrant has been arrested.
Officers launched a large scale operation on Friday morning to find the driver of a stolen car which crashed on Mungo Brush Road at Hawks Nest.
Police held fears the driver may have been injured or killed in thick bushland.
A search failed to find anyone.
A 27 year old man was spotted in a stolen Subaru Impreza in the Pindimar area just after 4pm yesterday afternoon.
The car was found dumped in bushland a short time later, prompting another police search.
The man was quickly arrested by a police dog handler.
He suffered a dog bite during the arrest, while police seized an item believed to be a prohibited drug.
The man was taken to Newcastle’s Calvery Mater Hospital where he was treated for the dog bite.
He was later taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with numerous offences including an outstanding warrant; take and drive conveyance, possess prohibited drug; posses house breaking implements; resist arrest; hinder police; and unlicensed driver.
He’ll face Newcastle Local Court today.
