A female pizza delivery driver has been the victim of a terrifying carjacking and assault at Mount Hutton.
The 21 year old was stopped by a man standing in the middle of Tennent Road at about 7:30pm on Thursday night.
He's accused of getting in her car, demanding she drive him to Warners Bay. When she tried to flee he allegedly grabbed her around the neck.
Shocked bystanders came to her aid and called police.
The 27 year old suspect was later arrested while trying to break into a second car.
A police officers suffered minor injuries to his leg after the man allegedly resisted arrest.
The 27-year-old man was taken to the Mater Hospital for observation before being taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with detain for advantage, choke person with intent to commit indictable offence and wound police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court today.
