Her partner has been arrested

A man's been charged after he allegedly assaulted paramedics at Belmont this morning.

Two paramedics were called to a unit in Belstone Avenue at 1:45am, where a pregnant woman had gone into labour.

It's claimed her 22 year old partner became aggressive towards the paramedics when the woman told him he couldn't join her in the ambulance.

He's accused of assaulting a paramedics and threatening both.

Police say he then kicked the ambulance several times as it tried to drive away to the hospital.
The man was arrested by police a short time later, allegedly in possession of a knife and tomahawk.

He'll face Newcastle Local Court today on six charges.
