The countdown is on for the Newcastle 500, with the Supercars to race around the city's CBD in just six months time and the event's entertainment to be unveiled soon.
Organisers say ticket sales are still flying out the door, with around 150,000 people expected to turn up to the cars zip along Shortland Esplanade, past Newcastle and Nobby's Beaches and by the Harbour.
Monday marked the start of construction work on the 2.6km track, with much of the focus on Wharf Road where the pits will be.
While spokesperson Cole Hitchcock says Supercars is "very close" to locking down a big name music act, with an announcement to be made shortly.
"We're very excited about who we're talking to," said Mr Hitchcock. "We think we're very close to finding a group that will be absolutely perfect for Newcastle."
The Coates Hire Newcastle 500 will run from November 24 - 26, and has been locked in for five years.
