A man who was bashed in Newcastle has passed away from his injuries, more than five months later.
The 45 year old was involved in an altercation with two men outside a licensed premises in Wharf Road on January 14.
He was punched in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
Police say he never recovered from his injuries and sadly died in John Hunter Hospital on Wednesday.
A 44 year old Woodberry man who was arrested at the time, has now had his charges upgraded to manslaughter.
He'll face Newcastle Local Court today.
