More Cops For Cessnock: Council

Mayor says they're being spread too thin

More Cops For Cessnock: Council

Cessnock City Council wants the number of police in the area to be boosted.

It's launched a campaign to petition the state government to allocate more resources to the Central Hunter local area command, including more officers and improved police stations.

With Cessnock and Kurri Kurri growing rapidly, councillors are concerned the police force is being spread too thin.

While Mayor Bob Pynsent praised local police for protecting the community, he said they need access to better resources.

"These concerns have been shared with Council by the men and women in uniform, who do not feel adequately equipped to deal with an increase in demand on local services," he said.

He was the first to sign Council's online petition.
