A man has been airlifted to the John Hunter after a two-tonne van rolled onto him at a Rutherford home.

Paramedics were called to Rebecca Close at around 9.30am, Tuesday to treat the 62-year-old, who has suffered chest and internal injuries.

It's believed he was working on the vehicle when it moved and pinned him to the ground by his chest.

The Westpac Rescue Chopper flew the man to hospital a short time later
