Police have charged a man over a wild pursuit in Lake Macquarie.
The 24 year old is accused of driving on the wrong side of Main Road at Toronto in a stolen Mitsubishi Triton, in a bid to avoid road spikes just before midday yesterday.
The chase was called off, however officers later caught up with the driver at Warners Bay after the ute left Macquarie Road and slammed into a tree.
He's currently under police guard in Belmont Hospital, nursing a broken back.
Meantime, a driver's on the run after a high-speed chase in Glendale this morning.
Police spotted a stolen Nissan Patrol on Main Road just after 1am and gave chase.
They were forced to call it off a few minutes later due to public safety concerns.
