Popular US burger chain Carl's Jr has confirmed its new store at Stockland Glendale will open later this year.
Construction work has begun on a new restaurant near the Kmart, in what will be the chain's second store in New South Wales.
Carl's Jr's first Australian store opened at Bateau Bay to great fanfare in 2016.
Franchisee Lindsay Brennan from the BKG Group says Glendale is the perfect place for a restaurant.
"When we were looking for the ideal site around Newcastle, certainly Glendale is a hub of activity," he said.
"We'll be looking to employ 70 or so people in varying positions from restaurant managers to casuals," he said.
It's expected the 70-seat restaurant and drive-thru will open in late November around the same time as the Newcastle 500 Supercars event.
Carl's Jr is one of America's biggest burger chains, previously known for its use of scantily clad models in its advertising.
The company changed its marketing strategy last year, with the CEO saying "the world had changed".
