Central Hunter Police have motorbike hoons in their sights.

They've launched Operation Katana, a month long crackdown on unregistered bikes.

Police say they're constantly hearing from members of the public complaining about bikes tearing around local streets.

"We have getting reports daily of the unlawful use of unregistered bike on public streets, particularly around Cessnock," Chief Inspector Dave Robinson said.

It follows an incident last month, where a motorbike was ridden across Federal Park at Wallsend during the middle of footy games.
