Carrington Coal Terminal On The Move?

It could make way for tourism..

Carrington Coal Terminal On The Move? Port Waratah Coal Services

There's talk today about possibly moving the Carrington coal loader away from homes.

The state government's draft Greater Newcastle Metropolitan Plan has raised the idea of "relocating the coal export facilities and bulk fuel storages away from residential areas."

The blueprint states the Port of Newcastle, Newcastle City Council and the NSW Department of Planning and Environment would "explore options to renew the Carrington precinct for alternative uses, including tourism."

Residents have welcomed the news.

"Relocating the coal export terminal is a universally positive outcome for the people of the port and rail side suburbs of Newcastle. It means greater economic diversity and a less air pollution for Newcastle," Charlotte McCabe from Tighes Hill Community Group said.

However a Port of Newcastle spokesperson says the section in the blueprint about the Carrington coal loader is actually a mistake, and the terminal isn't going anywhere.
