A surfer's lucky to be alive after nearly drowning near Swansea Heads.
Witnesses say the man came off his board and hit his head on a rock at Frenchmans Beach just after 11:30am, spending at least two minutes under water.
The 68 year old was pulled unconscious from the water by bystanders suffering a large crack to his skull.
Paramedics say when they arrived, the man was conscious and breathing after being given CPR.
He's been taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
