Anti-Supercar Group Slammed Over Nazi Facebook Post

The campaign against the Newcastle Supercars race has taken a disturbing turn, with East End residents comparing Supercars organisers to Nazis.

A post on the 'Newcastle East - Heritage Zone not Supercar Zone' Facebook page has sparked outrage, claiming "What do the Jews under the Nazis and Newcastle Easts under Supercars rule have in common. You guessed it .. both groups are denied their civil liberties and property rights."

The post has since been deleted.

However it was quickly shared on other Facebook pages, prompting swift criticism.

Some people have called the post "beyond disgusting" and "inexcusable".

East End resident and vocal anti-Supercars campaigner Maria Charlton has apologised for writing the post.

"I am also a European that fled the Nazis, so I didn't write this with any intention of hurting people," she said.

"Do you know how hard it is for me and other people who escaped the tyranny of Europe to come to the tyranny of Supercars?"
