The Newcastle Knights have been awarded a $10 million dollar grant to help build its Rugby League Centre of Excellence.
Funding has been announced by the state government today, provided the club matches the investment dollar-for-dollar.
It's expected the centre will be built just south of McDonald Jones Stadium on the Newcastle International Paceway site, however there's no word on when construction would begin.
The NRL franchise is one of five clubs sharing $50 million dollars worth of funding, however Newcastle has received the largest amount.
Knights CEO Phil Gardner says it's fantastic news.
"Not only will it be a great home for the Knights, it'll be a great home for elite youth in the region. It's a facility that everyone can be involved in."
"It'll have our museum there, our heroes room, our shop and medical precinct."
"It'll be a special part of the Knights new era."
