Two men have been charged in the fallout from the counter-terrorism raids enacted by police last weekend.
A 49-year-old man from Lakemba and a 32-year-old man from Punchbowl have been charged by the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team with two counts of acts done in preparation for/planning of a terrorist act.
The maximum penalty for this charge is life imprisonment.
According to a statement from the AFP, six properties have been searched across Lakemba, Punchbowl (x2), Surry Hills, Wiley Park and Bankstown.
Police uncovered an alleged plot to bring down a passenger jet, with revelations this afternoon that an improvised bomb made it all the way to the check-in desk at Sydney International Airport. The attempt was reportedly abandoned due luggage weight restrictions, as the device was stored in a bag that exceeded the permitted weight.
