Our hellish summer is set to turn up a notch this weekend, with most areas expecting three straight days of mid-40 degree heat.
Wallsend, Newcastle is forecast to reach 47°C on Saturday, making it the hottest place in the country alongside Ivanhoe in the state's far west according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
It will even be hotter than Birdsville in Queensland, where it will be a comparatively balmy 45°C, while South Australia's Oodnadatta will reach 46°C.
Bulahdelah and Singleton are both forecast to reach 47°C on Sunday. Temperatures on the coast will be a little cooler but still hot enough, tipped to hit the high 30's on the weekend.
