Fairfax is reporting that the Sydney terrorism plot currently under investigation was perilously close to being carried out.
New information has revealed that the improvised explosive device made it all the way to the check-in counter at Sydney International Airport.
The passenger had stored the device in some luggage, and encountered a hiccup when the bag was too heavy.
The plan was then aborted, with the luggage not checked in on that day.
Three men are still in custody for questioning regarding the matter after a counter-terrorism police operation last weekend.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed that charges would be laid due to "very substantial evidence" uncovered by police.
