Same-sex marriage postal vote surveys have been reportedly sent in error to deceased persons.

A number of homes across Canberra have received forms from the ABS which have been addressed to prior tenants or residents who’ve passed away, The Canberra Times reports.

Earlier this month, Canberra resident Catherine Beasley confirmed on Facebook she was one of those caught up in the bungle, sharing an image to Facebook.

“Got our postal survey, including one for the former (owner) of the house… who died eight years ago,” Ms Beasley wrote.

An Australian Electoral Commission spokesman said the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages provides an update of details to the electoral roll.

"An update on recent deaths was also obtained by the AEC to account for the close of rolls for the marriage survey," they told the Canberra Times.

Millions of Aussies should have now received their forms since the $122 million postal survey began on September 12.
