Losing those love handles is set to be a whole heap easier, with American researchers working on a skin patch that can literally melt fat.

In trials, mice have been able to strip 20% of their body weight by wearing the patches.

The patches work by using nanotechnology to raise metabolism and turn energy-storing white fat cells into the energy-burning brown cells.

The study's author is tipping the find as the new, non-invasive alternative to liposuction.

"Our patch may provide a safe and effective means of treating obesity and related metabolic disorders such as diabetes"

The patches, at the moment, are being placed on the mice's abdomen and replaced every 3 days.
