Australian sporting legend Betty Cuthbert has passed away at the age of 79.
Betty Cuthbert shot to athletic stardom at the age of 18. She won three Olympic golds at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics in thw100 metres, 200 metres & 4 x 100 relay.
Eight years later she returned from an 18-month retirement to win her fourth gold in the 400m in Tokyo.
She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis five years later and bravely fought the disease for almost fifty years.
The nine-time world record holder was elevated to legend status in The Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1985 and is considered one of the greatest athletes Australia has ever produced.
