Indonesian Rescue Chopper Goes Down After Volcano Erupts

At least two people have been killed when a search-and-rescue helicopter crashed in Indonesia while responding to a distress call during a volcanic eruption.

The chopper, carrying four crew members and four rescuers went down in the country's Central Java province.

Local media reports the team was dispatched yesterday, to assist in evacuating tourists who were visiting a crater at Dieng Plateau when it erupted and injured 10 people.

The eruption spewed mud, ash and cold lava up to 50 metres high.

At this stage, there's no indication conditions will affect flights to Bali as ash clouds have done in the past, but authorities are keeping an eye out for any possible wind changes.
