Four in ten pregnancy test on the market in Australia have been withdrawn from the market after testing by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
Results from the TGA testing showed that several of the devices were insensitive and recalled on the grounds that they provided false results.
All 38 devices on the market were tested, and this prompted nine manufacturers to withdraw their products voluntarily from the shelves.
The remaining 27 were tested, and five were found to have problems.
Of the original 38 on sale, a total of 16 were faulty.
Buyers can now be assured that all products currently on the market satisfy TGA standards.
