Cyclone Blanche has smashed the Top End over the weekend.
The Category 1 storm brought in damaging wind gusts to Darwin up to 95kms per hour and torrential rain. Authorities opened up the city's Supreme Court for the homeless to get shelter, and everyone else was told to stay home.
Experts didn't expect the system to cause too much property damage though, as it didn't make landfall. That will happen somewhere along the north coast of Western Australia later on Monday.
Anyway, this close call for Darwin got us wondering where storms like Blanche get their names. We found this cool explainer from the Bureau of Meteorology:
And here's the list of names. The next cyclone to hit Australia will be called Caleb!
