Father Of Teen Attacked By Sea Critters Posts Horrific Video Of Sea Lice Eating Raw Steak

WARNING: Graphic Content

The father of a teen who was bitten by mystery sea critters at a Melbourne beach has posted a graphic video of the lice devouring raw steak.

Sam Kanizay, 16, soaked his legs at Brighton's Dendy Street Beach after playing football on Saturday, soon after he emerged from the water his legs were covered in blood. His family believe sea lice were eating the flesh on his legs.

"When he got out, he described having sand on his legs, so he went back in the water," his dad Jarrod Kanizay told AAP.

"He went back to his shoes and what he found was blood on his legs."

While Hospital staff were at a loss to explain what had happened, his family have played detective.

The next night, Mr Kanizay went back to the beach with a pool net full of meat and captured the creatures he said were responsible.

A video he took shows dozens of bugs in a tray of water devouring chunks of meat.

TV Vet, Dr Chris Brown, has also weighed in on the mystery attack.

"So what's to blame?" he posted on Facebook.

"Well assuming that Sam isn't on high doses of aspirin (known to stop blood clots forming), the likely culprits are small parasites of fish and other marine creatures that may be releasing anti-coagulants when they feed on flesh. Sea lice and even marine leeches (isopod crustaceans) have been known to attack swimmers in large numbers. It's likely the cold waters of the bay only helped to numb their bites, meaning Sam never knew he was becoming a meal for some mini monsters."
