One French police officer has been killed, and at least two others wounded following a shooting near the Champs Elysees.
The shooter has since been killed and there's uncertainty around whether there was a second attacker.
Witnesses say they saw a man get out of a car at the scene and begin shooting with a machine gun.
Several police sources told Reuters it could have been an attempted armed robbery on one of the world's most expensive streets.
The incident comes just days before the country heads to the polls in the most tightly-congested presidential election in living memory.
