The Trials of the Vampire tackles one of the most mysterious cases in Australian crime history, being that of Shane Chartres-Abbott.
The vampire gigolo was murdered on his way to court for charges relating to the rape and mutilation of a client.
However, the vampire gigolo’s story takes a turn in this PodcastOne production, with Walkley Award-winning journalist Adam Shand’s revelations regarding Chartres-Abbott’s past – including allegations of another murder within the family.
“It’s the untold story. You actually get down to who Shane Chartres-Abbott really was – beyond the ‘vampire gigolo’ tag,” Shand said.
“You hear what was going on in his life at the time, and the other possible scenarios as to why he was murdered.
“This is not a cold case. We have a guy in a jail who said he did it. Three others were acquitted. And yet we also have this sort of stain over serving and past police officers, who were accused by the self-confessed killer of being involved.
“That was one of the motivations for doing this podcast. Let’s really see here, because speaking to Shane’s family, they believe police were involved.”
