A pregnant American woman has shot and killed her boyfriend and is facing criminal charges in what she says was a YouTube stunt gone awry.
Monalisa Perez shot her boyfriend, 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz, at close range whilst he held a hardcover encyclopaedia book against his chest as they filmed a video for their YouTube channel.
The soon-to-be mother of two, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter after using a Desert Eagle pistol, which is described as one of the most powerful semiautomatic handguns in the world.
Before the incident, Perez posted about the stunt on Twitter (in a tweet which is surprisingly still up at this current time) writing, “Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever 😳😳 HIS idea not MINE 🙈”.
One of the deceased’s aunts told WDAY-TV that she knew about the stunt.
“He had told me about that idea and I said, 'Don't do it. Don't do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why?’”
She said he replied, "Because we want more viewers. We want to get famous."
The manslaughter charge could see Perez serve 10 years in prison.
